When should I start acupuncture treatment?

Women are often advised to start acupuncture 3 months before they start treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI). However, starting acupuncture along with your doctor’s recommended fertility therapy may still be beneficial.

How often should I have acupuncture for infertility?

Acupuncture is a dose like every other treatment. Its effects last for around 3-4 days then need to be repeated. The best treatment option is to have acupuncture twice a week for maximum effect. Having treatment from a fertility specialist will reduce anxiety and stress levels, regulate fertility hormones, boost energy and blood levels, increase blood flow to the uterus, improve implantation and pregnancy rates as well as reduce the chances of having a miscarriage.

What acupuncture points are used for fertility?

On the insides of the leg run the spleen and kidney meridians. These are the ones we want to use to help boost the whole reproductive system. A lot of these points cluster near, or just above the ankle bone. These are the most powerful, although other great points run up the inside of the leg and knee.

What should I wear for fertility acupuncture?

Acupuncturists may need to access areas under your clothes, but they will properly drape you so that only small portions of skin are exposed. However, they do recommend wearing loose clothing so that sleeves can be rolled up above the elbows and pant legs can be pulled up above the knees.
